How I use Pages vs Blocks in Craft Docs

In my post on why I replaced Bear, Obsidian, and Roam Research with Craft, Jeff asks,

I am still rather confused about Craft’s Pages vs. Blocks. They seem to work just about the same, but I don’t think I’m using it as intended. Maybe I’m missing something?

I don’t know if I’m missing something too, but here’s how I use them.

Pages – I tend to create Pages rather than blocks.

For example, I have a “writing log” which I keep as an index of my writing.

When I have a new idea, I create a page within the writing log (shift+@) then start typing the title. Then, I go to that page to write down the ideas.

Two benefits: (1) The ideas for this post is in its own dedicated page and (2) I am able to zoom out and look at all the writing I have in various stages.

Blocks – I use blocks to quote stuff from other pages.

That way, I don’t create a second copy of the thing, but can maintain a ‘single source of truth’.

For example, here, I refer to a block from the book “Becoming” the page “Serious without being self-serious”

That is, if I edit the Barack Obama text within the “Becoming” page, it also updates the block in the “Serious without being self-serious” page.
