True learning requires doing

True learning requires actual doing and deliberate practice.

When learning “soft” or knowledge-based skills, e.g. customer development or doing user interviews, it’s easy to delude ourselves that we’ve “learned” something merely by reading about it.

This is why learning a new language or a new sport is so helpful. It becomes clear very quickly that I can read all the books about, say, wrestling, or the German language. But until I practice and do, I just can’t do it, and therefore don’t know it.

This post is inspired by Teresa Torres from Product Talk. Spoiler alert: Continuous interviewing is a keystone habit for continuous (product) discovery.
