Day 7: The Best Piece Of Advice I Was Given About Interviewing

It was my first ever sales call. I asked my mentor, “What questions will the prospect ask me? I want to make sure I’m prepared.”

I was feeling proud of myself. How diligent I am in preparing for this call.

My mentor said:

No no no. You’re thinking about this completely wrong. You ask the questions. Set a goal for the call and prepare 3-5 questions to achieve the goal. You drive the conversation.

That forever changed how I approach sales calls and of course, job interviews. After all, an interview is merely a sales conversation where the product you’re selling is you.
