Day 15: 5 Skills New Entrepreneurs Must Prioritize Learning to Build a Financially Viable, Mentally Healthy, and Pride-Worthy Business

I started my first business in 2013 and have been working on a side venture since 2021.

But I’ve faced setbacks. Initially, I struggled to be productive working on my own and make money. Then, I earned income but didn’t feel proud of what I was offering. Eventually, I made money offering a service I was proud of, but burned out in the process.

I’m starting a business again. This time, I’m more intentional about the skills I need to learn.

Here they are:

  • Skill 1: Entrepreneur Productivity & Psychology — How can I make sure that I do the work, without burning out or hating my life?
  • Skill 2: Lead Generation — How do I create effective ads that generate leads? How do I write copy faster?
  • Skill 3: Sales & Sales Process Optimization — How can I sell effectively and efficiently without dreading the process? (I learned this the hard way doing sales calls immediately upon waking up at 7am)
  • Skill 4: Training Design & Development — How do I create and refine a coaching program that truly benefits customers while being operationally viable?
  • Skill 5: Building Domain Expertise — What do I need to learn about effective job searching and career management for immigrants to become the foremost expert in this area?

As new entrepreneurs, there’s so much we need to learn. There’s finance, team building, branding, operations, and many more.

However, I believe these five skills are the most crucial and challenging — focus on them.

If you’re an entrepreneur, I’d love to get your advice. What do you think are the most crucial skills to learn? How did you learn them?
