Monthly-ish Personal Update (Jul 2020)

An update on the not-so-new job, Write of Passage, and Coaching Project.

Hi, this is my monthly personal update to my most valued friends and allies. More info here. Guilt-free unsubscribe link at the bottom.

Here are three updates:

First, the not-so new job. 👩‍💻

Nine months in as Product Owner / Product Manager at Giant Swarm, I finally feel like I am contributing.

Being a developer-oriented product and having no development background, the learning curve has been very steep.

I consider myself a very fast learner, so even though everyone in the company warned me, it still caught me off guard 😅

Second, Write of Passage. ✍️

It’s a writing course I’m taking. The idea is to accelerate your career by building your “Personal Monopoly” and writing online.

Mine might be around “Platform Product Management.” I’m not even sure what the product space should be called - is it Infrastructure? (Internal) Platform? Developer Tooling?

In part, the course prompted me to start this Monthly Personal Update: It really hit me that writing an email with what’s important to me, what I’m thinking about, and what I’m struggling with… Writing this to my most valued friends and allies is the highest leverage thirty minutes I could spend all month.

Third, Coaching Project.

A good friend and I are exploring doing coaching to solve challenges East Asians in their early to mid career (4 to 7 yrs) experience when working in Europe or the US.

This week, we’re brainstorming names, because calling it just “Coaching Project” is lame. Any ideas? (We might end up calling it “Genghis Clan” 😜)

Interested in the writing stuff? Have tips on Platform Product Management? Cool name ideas for Coaching Project? Maybe share what you are up to?

Hit reply. I’d love to hear from you 😀

Thanks,
Chiara

P.S. Last month, I published two new posts: How I change careers so easily and Meetings can be the best type of work.
