Not recognizing the fear (is the dream-killer) part 1

In June 2013, I quit my corporate consulting job to do my own thing. My dream was to make good money while controlling when, where, and with whom I work.

My chosen method was to do marketing consulting. I knew that until someone gives me money in exchange for my services… I don’t have a business. I need to go out and get customers. But for the longest time, I didn’t.

The story I told myself was: I don’t know enough yet. I don’t have experience doing this. I need to learn more.

So for something like 6 months, I sat on my ass and read books and took courses.

A common theme in all my reading: Fear.

Fear of failure. Fear of success. Fear of uncertainty. People are so afraid they don’t try at all.

Sounds pathetic to me.

Nice to know, but that’s not me. What’s holding me back is legit: lack of contacts and skill, not fear.

Fast forward September 2015…

[To be continued tomorrow. This is only a third of the post, but since I want to publish everyday, I’ll go ahead, post this, and continue the rest tomorrow.]
